Somewhere between Nick Drake and Robert Johnson…
Hey everyone ! I won’t have much time the next few days so I want to leave you with a true masterpiece and not a very famous one. Jackson C. Frank : “Blues Run The Game”. So basically the word is :
IF YOU HAVE NEVER HEARD THAT NAME OR MUSIC, GET IT RIGHT NOW!
It just doesn’t get often better than this.
Somewhere between Nick Drake and Robert Johnson, Jackson C. Frank only recorded this album (well this one and the EP that is included on this CD) in the early 60’s. Basically, picture if you will, a American folk singer who would go to the UK to find out about the UK folk and instead would discover US Blues… but through the prism of UK Folk.
A bit confusing, I know, but the marriage of these three styles are gathered in an incredible way and it is still amazing to me that he isn’t more famous. I just heard of him early last year and heard him late last year and I cannot get over him. He is just that good. Before making a complete ass of myself by adding superlative one after another, I’ll shut up now. Just get the damn thing and tell me if it ain’t one of the most beautiful albums you’ve ever heard.

Enjoy.

PS: I’ll keep on posting yé-yé girls next week, though! I’ll still have a couple to share.
